Beautiful Boy: Chapter II
New work coming soon.
While working on 'Beautiful Boy' for over two years, my sweetheart and I often seek out new adventures. We love discovering locations that imply we live a more luxurious life on a limited budget. Our trips have ranged from as far as rural Italy, where we inhabited a house covered in 17th-century frescoes. I am quite sensitive to the color pallets of different time periods, as well as to the quality of the textiles, which are related to history in a larger sense. When planning to shoot at a particular location, I always study the history of the building, and strive to capture some of the many layers of meaning that accrue to a place over the years or even centuries. My partner loves this as well, as he is a historian by profession.
Leaving behind the artifice of the studio, we began to uncover a dreamlike new aesthetic, a vision of queer femininity deeply rooted in an imagined past, and an uncanny conversation with the generations of women who inhabited these spaces before us.
